Arizona State Senate candidate Michelle Altherr delivered a powerful message at the March 11, 2026 Maricopa County Board of Supervisors meeting.
“The word of God says, when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people mourn.”

Altherr didn’t hold back. She called out the Board for acting like “gods” — gaveling people down, kicking citizens out, and refusing to truly listen. She highlighted the ongoing efforts to handcuff Recorder Justin Heap, even as he works to restore power to the people’s elected official.
“You sit there as gods… ready to gavel out people who maybe don’t speak the way you want them to speak… The We the People did [elect him].”
She compared the Board’s behavior to politicians who prioritize everything except the citizens they serve — putting up roadblocks instead of solutions.
This isn’t just one person’s opinion. It’s the growing frustration of citizens who show up month after month, only to face selective decorum, ignored concerns, and power plays that undermine elected officials who actually want accountability.
When those in authority stop listening and start ruling over the people instead of for them, the mourning begins — and the pushback grows stronger.
The people are awake. Candidates like Michelle Altherr are speaking truth in the lion’s den. More voices are rising.
No more ruling as if you’re above the people. No more treating citizens like inconveniences. The Board serves Maricopa County — not the other way around.
Times have changed. The mourning is turning into action.
