Today, we address a deeply troubling issue raised at a recent Tempe Union High School District meeting, where a courageous gentleman exposed the presence of pornographic material in school libraries—material that directly contradicts the values of parents and the moral foundation of our communities.
His bold stand, rooted in a commitment to protect our children, demands our attention and action.
A Voice for the Voiceless
At the heart of this gentleman’s address was a righteous indignation against the presence of sexually explicit books, such as All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson, in school libraries.
Reading directly from the text, he highlighted graphic passages describing sexual acts, including oral sex and anal intercourse, accessible to children as young as 10.
These materials, available without parental consent, violate Arizona law (ARS 15-120.02) and undermine the trust parents place in schools to safeguard their children’s innocence.
His challenge to the school board was clear: “How can me reading from a book from your library not be the point?”
He exposed not only the explicit content but also the board’s reluctance to address it, accusing them of cowardice for dodging accountability.
This is not merely a policy debate—it is a moral and legal breach that demands immediate correction.
The Legal and Moral Imperative
The speaker cited Arizona law ARS 13-3507, which classifies the distribution of sexually explicit material to minors as a felony.
He also referenced Pico v. Island Trees School District, a Supreme Court case affirming school boards’ authority to remove inappropriate materials, and Mahanoy Area School District v. B.L., which supports parental rights to opt out of objectionable content.
These legal precedents underscore the board’s responsibility to act swiftly to remove such materials.
Beyond legality, the gentleman invoked Scripture, quoting Revelation 2:20, which warns against tolerating teachings that lead children into sexual immorality.
Revelation 2:20
Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.
He reminded the board—particularly those who profess faith in Christ—that tolerance of such content is a sin God holds against believers.
As Matthew 18:6 declares, it is better to face dire consequences than to cause a child to stumble.
Matthew 18:6
“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
These words resonate as a call to action for all who value the purity of our youth.
The Consequences of Inaction
The presence of graphic materials like All Boys Aren’t Blue, Lawn Boy, and This Book Is Gay in school libraries is driving parents to pull their children from public schools.
Families are opting for charter schools, private institutions, or homeschooling, unwilling to expose their children to content that promotes sexual exploration during their most vulnerable years.
As the speaker noted, “What is seen cannot be unseen.” The availability of such material behind parents’ backs creates fear, anger, and a loss of trust in the education system.
This is not about censorship but about protecting children from content that glorifies sexual immorality and undermines their development.
Schools must prioritize educational materials that align with academic excellence and moral integrity, not those that teach children “how to properly give oral sex” or normalize explicit behavior.
A Call to Action
It Is Our Duty urges the Tempe Union High School District to take immediate steps to remove pornographic materials from its libraries.
Parents must be notified and provide written consent for any sexually explicit content, and alternative assignments must be offered, as required by Arizona law.
We call on believers and concerned citizens to stand for the children, holding school boards accountable and advocating for policies that reflect biblical values and parental rights.
To the board members who profess Christ: heed the warning of Revelation 2:20 and act decisively.
To parents and community members: attend school board meetings, review library materials, and demand transparency.
Together, we can protect our children from the filth that threatens their hearts and minds.
A Prayer for Righteousness
Let us close with a prayer inspired by Psalm 127:3:
Psalm 127:3
“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.”Heavenly Father, we lift up our children to You, asking for Your protection over their hearts and minds.
Grant wisdom and courage to those in authority to remove all that is impure from our schools.
Strengthen parents and believers to stand boldly for righteousness, guided by Your Word.
May we honor You by safeguarding the innocence of our youth.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
